About Us

Lighthouse Cinema is situated on the corner of Crantock Street, King Street and Chapel Hill. The purpose built complex occupies the site of the former Victoria Cinema and Vic Bars Public House. The cinema opened in May 2011, bringing a much needed facility back to Newquay for the first time in 16 years.

There are four screens, two on the ground floor and two on the first floor, which are accessible via stairs or the foyer lift.

The cinema has hosted a number of regional premieres, festivals and special one-off screenings, including the UK Film Premiere of Soul Surfer, the Cornwall Film Festival on 3 occasions, and the Approaching Lines Surf Festival twice. Live Comedy Nights have proved popular and the cinema is also available as a conference venue.

In July 2014 the cinema commenced live satellite transmissions, the first of which was Andre Rieu’s 10th Anniversary Concert, followed the next day by Monty Python live from the O2. Live theatre, opera and ballet from around the UK and abroad are now regularly brought to the Big Screen.

Each screen has designated wheelchair spaces, infra-red hearing systems, audio description and subtitling facilities.

Screen 1, the largest auditorium, has a raised stage area and facilities capable for live entertainment, conferencing and special presentations.

The ground floor features the box office and concession areas, alongside a small licensed bar for patrons to enjoy a drink prior to their movie starting.
